I guess I was confused because the gawk manual mentions the bug-gawk list only
in the context of reporting bugs:

   http://www.gnu.org/software/gawk/manual/html_node/Bugs.html
   Once you have a precise problem, send email to <address@hidden>.

I didn't realize that the Savannah description encourages other types of
messages.
