Hello Ed.Sorry, I don't know what the process is for how enhancements get implemented: Is there a proposed solution/implementation, now, that we get to agree on (or otherwise!)?The general outline of an implementation has been discussed and seems both workable and portable. However, as of now, no-one has actually stepped up to the plate to write the code.
Arnold - does the proposed solution allow the user to write: gawk -X 'script' filewhere "X" is some appropriate letter and the result is to update "file" with the result of executing "script" on the original contents of "file"?
I just want to make sure we're talking about implementing something every bit as simple to use as the sed, perl, and ruby equivalents otherwise it's probably not worth bothering with.
I'm fine with leaving it in the queue for whoever feels the urge to implement it. It's not something I see myself using much, it's more of just an obvious hole in awk functionality compared to it's peers and something I see a lot of other people benefiting from.If you really want this to happen, we can discuss my consulting rates offline (seriously).
Thanks, Ed.
