Follow-up Comment #4, bug #23920 (project findutils): I don't know how I missed it in 5.1. Sorry. I agree with your first two examples. But I can't imagine that it was intended for "-path ./src/emacs/" to match ./src/emacs/foo.c, any more than "-name austin" is intended to match "austin-d5.1r.pdf".
