Actually, for a C89 or C99 prototype, you can drop the 'extern ' part
of the line and just use:

char * getpass (const char *prompt);

for what it is worth, under FreeBSD and GNU/Linux, the declaration is
found in the <unistd.h> include file.

I suppose it would make as much sense as anything to have you creatae
a windows-NT\unistd.h file and change windows-NT/config.h to 
'#define HAVE_UNISTD_H' instead of using a #undef for it.

Are there any other opinions out there?
