It is --no-absolute-filename, *not* -no-absolute-filename (two dashes
in front, not one).

> cpio -idv -no-absolute-filenames /usr/sbin/lsof < backup.cpio

If you use --no-absolute-filename then the leading slash will not match
anything in the archive.  The correct usage is:

cpio -idv --no-absolute-filenames usr/sbin/lsof < backup.cpio
