I suspect this is the same issue I was seeing[1].  The patch I
submitted doesn't apply to the git repo though.  I was working from a
tarball at the time and didn't realize how different that looked from
the git master branch.  I have an updated (for the 8.4 tarball)
version available if it's useful, but haven't had the time to properly
patch it into git for resubmission.
