how do i give a working comand in console after "sudo su" let me be "#"

Subject: how do i give a working comand in console after "sudo su" let me be "#" under ubuntu 8.10 to copy entire folder "desktop" to another partition with the folowing:

how do i give a working comand in console after "sudo su" let me be
"#"  under ubuntu 8.10 to copy entire folder "desktop" to another
partition with the folowing:
source(right click ,properties) :  
location: /media/disk/home/gfworm
name     : Desktop
destination (right click ,properties) :
name     : mutate1
location:   /media/disk-1      
i tryed some and got very anoyed
