I believe that was fixed on 2006-12-20 with commit d69fc66d and is
mentioned in the NEWS for coreutils release 6.8 dated 2007-02-24.

You did not say what version of cut you were using.  This can be seen
with 'cut --version'.  Upgrading should solve the problem.
