Thanks for doing that work.

The config.log will be a fairly large file.  Sending large files to
mailing lists can be problematic because it is read by people on slow
connections and some pay for it by the byte and it is also archived
many different places creating a multiplier too.

Instead of mailing the config.log to the list could you either place
the file someplace globally accessable and post a url to it or simply
send that file directly to Jim?  That would be great.  If you have any
trouble then please contact me and I will help.

I sent the config.log file to Jim Meyering.

Then, to amuse myself, I downloaded version 10 of the Intel compiler
and built coreutils-6.8 with it.  That version of icc built
coreutils-6.8 flawlessly and the generated expr worked correctly.
