cp copy command

Thanks for this "cp" copy command, it works and has good options. In "man
cp" it states the "-p" option will preserve mode, ownership and timestamp.
When I copy from a backup directory it does not preserve ownership, but
does keep the original timestamp, which is usually all I've worried about
before. Shouldn't the ownership of the copied file be the same as the
origination file when using the "cp -p filefrom fileto" command? When I
copy it shows the ownership as myself instead.
