coreutils wishlist: nohup -p <pid> should let you background a running process, like Sun's nohup

Hello good people--

I have a wishlist request.  It would be wonderful if one could use
(for example)

 nohup -p 9334

to take the already-running process 9334 and nohup it.  

I don't know enough about the underlying system calls needed for such
a feature, but i noticed that Sun currently claims to provide such an
option.  Sun's nohup developer, Adam Leventhal, has posted his
thoughts about it in his blog [0].

Is this something that might be doable with GNU nohup, provided that
there is kernel-level support for these types of tricks?  Adam's
description of it as a "quality of life" feature seems pretty
on-target to me.  i know i would find it really useful.

Note: I originally filed this as a request with debian's coreutils
team [1], and Bob Proulx helpfully pointed me upstream to this
address.

If anyone has any thoughts about this sort of feature, or thoughts
about anything i might be able to do to help it along, i'd be happy to
hear them.
