I can agree with that philosophy.  However, that didn't happen
with cat --binary - it was just silently removed between 5.3.0 and
5.90 with no deprecation period (although NEWS does document
this, and the option wasn't really very useful to begin with).

One more - what about who -i vs. who -u?  I found the
documentation there rather confusing.  'info who' lists -i
and --idle twice, but claims the option is deprecated
only once; meanwhile, it does not list --users.  Invoking
both who -i and who --idle warns about -i being deprecated.
