This is a worrisome problem (albeit not fatal).

Can you please let us know what kind of system you are building
coreutils on, and the coreutils version you are building?
For example, what is the output of the command "uname -a"
and of the command "gcc --version"?

Also, can you please try the latest test version
<ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/coreutils-5.3.0.tar.gz>
and see whether the problem still occurs with it?

If it does occur, can you please send the relevant parts
of config.log.  This log file should tell you more about
why that warning is generated.
