Dear Sir
I wanted to learn about C++ and therefore bought a book called, "C++ for
dummies," by Stephen R. Davies. He suggests downloading your software in
order to use it as the reader works through his exercises.
I downloaded the zipped folder, "CommonC++1.5.1," from the FTP site
ftp.irisa.fr and extracted the folders and files (using Winzip) to my PC's
hard drive(I have tried using Windows Millennium and W98 O.Systems). Having
edited my Autoexec.bat files (3 of them !) as, I think, Mr Davies
suggests(he says to add the following : set PATH=C:\DJGPP\BIN;%PATH% and
then a second line thus : set DJGPP=C:\DJGPP\DJGPP.ENV), I then attempted to
run the INSTALL file which is located within the Win32 folder. Please find
attached a Word file with the screen print of the MsDos screen which
resulted.
I tried the suggestions-in MsDos-contained in the document entitled,
"Install," located in the root folder but all I ever achieved were the
countless instances of : bad command or file name.
Looking at the file, "CCXX.dsp," within the Win32 folder, it seems as if
this programme should be able to help but I was not able to do anything with
it.
I very much appreciate being able to download your software and hesitated to
impose further upon your time and resources but having spent a good amount
of time getting nowhere, I now need help if I am going to make any further
progress.
Thank you very much.
Tim Exall
