Hmm, the file that you sent us later was named "via.y", not "Via.y";
was that intended?
What platform are you running on? What does "uname -a" report?
Are you using a case-insensitive file system?

That's _very_ odd. -v shouldn't matter.
Which m4 are you using?
What is the output of "strings bison | grep '/.*m4'"?
If you are using, say /opt/sfw/bin/gm4, what is the output of
"/opt/sfw/bin/gm4 --version"?
