I'm getting a chance to look at this.

That's straight from the parallel manual.  Pretty much all of the examples
are from the parallel manual.

Ole Tange, GNU parallel's author, supplied the text and examples.  It
would be more helpful to report problems to the parallel bug address if
you feel strongly about it.

You might consider reporting such problems to bug-parallel@gnu.org so the
source material can be fixed.
