The answer is:

funny, you just backed up my statement completely. there is no utility that'll give you the subnet address straight, you'll need to calculate it by hand.

You're making assumptions about what the OP's question was. Specifically, your interpretation appears to be: "I [don't want to] have to calculate subnet address [by doing] binary AND operation on ipaddress AND subnet mask to know subnet address."

Another possible interpretation is: "I [think] you have to calculate subnet address[, i.e.] you have to do binary AND operation on ipaddress AND subnet mask to know subnet address. Can any one help me to know subnet address of the machine in bash script?".

in the future you might want to consider being less of a jerk.

Well, you're the one getting upset by a perfectly valid (IMO) interpretation of the OP's question and your reply. Maybe consider the other point of view first? Or just relax, getting upset won't help anyway :-).
