I have been trying to trace a problem I'm having with Bash for a
while.
For an unknown (to me) reason, my shell seems to freeze. This has
been happening for a while when I am running RH9, FC1-4 in console
mode or using konsole/KDE. When an instance of Bash freezes on me,
I can run strace on that process from another console and it the
strace output is usually something like:
ioctl (0, SNDCTL_TMR_STOP -or-
ioctl (0, SNDCTL_TMR_STOP or TCSETSW
I am not sure if the strace output is relevant here but it is
consistent.
The only reference to a problem like this that I have found so far
advises to update to the latest Bash. I have, however, also
experienced this with Bash 3.0 built with all the patches available
from ftp.gnu.org/gnu/bash.
Can someone please shed some light on this for me? I am willing to
play along with any debugging necessary to find this problem and
fix it.
Thanks.
