This means that AUCTeX couldn't find out in which tex file the error
occured.  I've recently fixed a bug causing this effect in the current
development version of AUCTeX.  Is there any chance that you are using
the hyperref package in your document, and there's a message

  Package hyperref Message: Driver (autodetected): hpdftex.

in the compile log buffer (C-c C-l after compilation)?
