Judging from a thread about the issue in de.comp.text.tex this is a bug
in LuaTeX.  See

Unfortunately I could not find the thread on the LuaTeX list which is
mentioned on de.comp.text.tex, so I'm not sure if this has already been
fixed.  The cited part sounds like the LuaTeX developers intend to do
so, so I'll refrain from changing the default in AUCTeX for now.
