On one system (axiom-developer.org) which is configured with a
variant of RedHat 9 as a shared virtual server - don't know
many more details than that - I have found that is necessary
to change the GCLOPTS so that --max-page is a little less than
256*1024 (I use 192*1024 on axiom-developer.org). If this doesn't
work, then I suggest to try configure with this number a little
larger - maybe 320*1024. In general GCL seems to depend very
strongly on the detailed memory management features of those
operating systems on which it runs. This and the specific code
relocation method is the what changes most from machine to
machine.
