I believe, thought I'm no longer sure, that if you construct a 
function with more than 63 arguments the compiler complains or
the code fails. Clearly you would never do this by hand but
compilers built on top of common lisp can exceed this limit
with ease. I'm not sure where Axiom creates such an argument
list.
