Tom, could you please do a "lsusb -d 0403:6010 -v |head -n20" in Linux with the 
FT2232D attached and post the output?
(You may have to change the vendor-id/product-id to match you chip.) My 2232D 
works btw, and libftdi correctly sets the type.
