Follow-up Comment #5, bug #29743 (project avrdude):

OK, a few more questions then:

How is the atmega328p connected?  Is that some kind of RS-232
to USB adapter?   Or is that an AVRISPmkII?  In other words:
which -c and -P option are you using?

> host protocol: ???
> target protocol: stk500v1 to download program to arduino bootloader.

Again, through some kind of RS-232 converter?  (-c/-P would
be helpful)

> FAILS:
> host: same
> target: xmega128a1
> host protocol: ???
> target protocol: PDI

I take it that's an AVRISPmkII, is it?
