Follow-up Comment #1, bug #21941 (project avrdude):

Replying to myself:

I've got a working config for ATmega88P. I've installed the
last version of AVR studio and I've verified that the device ID
(for the STK500 programmer) is the same as for the ATmega88.

This can be copied with minimal changes (signature bytes) across all the
family: ATmega48P/88P/168P/328P 
The load extended address instruction does not apply to this family.
