Failure to configure and build Automake is a first for me. This is
under FreeBSD 5.0:

% ./configure
configure: loading site script /usr/local/share/config.site
CC       = "/usr/local/bin/gcc-3.3.3"
CXX      = "/usr/local/bin/c++-3.3.3"
CFLAGS   = "-O2 -Wall -march=i686 -mcpu=pentium4 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS = "-O -Wall -march=i686 -mcpu=pentium4 -pipe"
CPPFLAGS = "-I/usr/local/include"
LDFLAGS  = "-L/usr/local/lib -R/usr/local/lib -R/usr/X11R6/lib"
