Well, not exactly "my own".  I'm using the one from gnulib.  My
recollection is that we were going to update the gnulib version from
automake after your next major release, but looking at it now, I can't
see any reason why we can't put automake's mkinstalldirs in gnulib.
I'll follow up on that.

Meanwhile, I'm all in favor of getting rid of mkinstalldirs completely :).
