Didn't know that. Oddly enough, if I try something
like 'pwd; echo `cd foo; pwd`; pwd' in bash, that works
as expected - but for configure, I needed to add the subshell...

In a DOS box under Windows Millennium, yes.

The latest bash 2.04 for DJGPP.
Apparently, this seems to be a very strange quirk in our bash
port. Please disregard the patch to EXPAND_AUX_DIR for
now; I'll investigate further.
