[AUCTeX] Alignment of "&" Characters in "align" environment.

I am using AUCTeX in conjunction with emacs and would like for "&" characters
to auto-align within an "align" environment (or any variations; e.g.
align*). Does anyone know how to achieve this? (Right now I just hit the
space bar until the & on the second line is below the & on the first line.
On each successive line, I can then merely begin with a tab.)
